In class we are studying the American Revolution and Fraunces Tavern was a close historical landmark. We talked about the American Revolution there. (It was really fun but my class had to walk through the freezing wind which was crazy!!!!!)
Fraunces Tavern is a very important place in history. This is where George Washington planned his battles during the American Revolutionary War (when he was in town). Fraunces kept a musket near the window in case of emergencies! And it is still there by the window on display.
George Washington said good-bye to his troops here too. It was the end of the war, and he was about to become President of the United States Of America. George Washington’s troops had grown to become close friends so they were very sad that they had to leave each other.
Did you know that upstairs they have a piece of George Washington’s tooth, which was most likely a goat tooth!!! They also had a couple of strands of his hair which was pretty gross.

Molly Pitcher
On a hot day at the Battle of Monmouth on June 18, 1778 Molly Pitcher who’s real name was Marry Ludwig Hays, followed her husband through the war. He armed a cannon. During that battle her husband collapsed of heat stroke so Molly Pitcher fought the rest of the battle, while at the same time she carried pitchers of water from the nearby stream to the thirsty!!
Sadly during this battle George Washington’s horse died of heat!
