2020 reading vibes!

We are off and running with PS 8’s Readathon! Here’s a fun 2020 reading log–just write titles completed on the spines. Hard copies of this log are available to pick up in the library during Open Access for parents (Tuesdays 2:40-3:20 every week).

Gone but not forgotten.

This month second graders and I will embark on a guided research process study of Statue of Liberty, followed by an independent choice mini-search project. Third graders will select a historical figure and create a Biocube project to express their knowledge. Students have been introduced to some basic keyboarding skills, and will work to locate multiple sources information, and to practice taking notes from audiovisual sources. Better than a book report or a book review, fourth graders with write “Book Hook” recommendations for titles available at the PS 8 Library and present their choices digitally with help from the iPad app ChatterPix Kids. And fifth graders will choose a topic for independent research to create a “Book Backdrop” in google slides, which will require the use of a citation format, multiple sources, and access to digital archives (LOC, NYPL, Smithsonian).
