Our 2016-17 Garden Coach Nicole Mabry spent today with first grade classrooms reprising last year’s wildly popular indoor wheat planting. As first graders planted seeds indoors in window boxes, they mused about how tall wheat would grow indoors and outdoors, what color it would be, and what environment would be better for its growth.
Lots of debate: one student thought “snow outside would help because it would melt and give the wheat water” while another student in the class said that “snow would be bad because it would freeze the wheat and cause it to die.”
They’ll have to wait and see — as they watch their wheat grow this winter and spring!
