Nothing says fall like the abundance of the harvest – apple cider doughnuts, mums and yes, maybe even an eggplant (?!).
As their first community outing of the year, the second graders arrived at the Brooklyn Borough Hall Green Market with sketch books, pocket money and questions for our community farmers. They sampled a variety of different types apples (or several slices of their favorite) and discussed the option of pooling their money for a dozen apple cider doughnuts or going solo to get some other delicious autumn treat. After the sugar overload the kids headed to Cadman Plaza to play tag and other games in the unseasonably warm afternoon.
The kids in Ms. Schultz’s class split into committees (food, decoration and entertainment) and planned an in-class harvest party that included vampire teeth, some amazing dance moves.
Ms. DeWan’s and Mr. Levy’s class got crafty and created scary recycled art projects – juice box mummies, pipe cleaner spiders and witches’ hat baskets.
It was an amazing month full of festive activities.
