On a recent Wednesday morning the auditorium came alive with 2nd graders performing interpretive dances inspired by Keith Haring. Groups of students posed carefully, intertwined at times to represent what they took away from visual imagery. Together our dance teacher, Ms. Jamie, and our art teacher, Ms. Kravitz, forged a connection between visual and performing arts. The kids took their dance assignments so seriously the auditorium fell to a hush as they carefully arranged themselves. Group after group entranced the parent audience with creative unique dance movements. Surrounding this performance was the wonderfully playful colorful imagery the students created themselves, again interpreting Haring’s imagery.
